Ultrasonography

With the help of the ultrasound the physician can painlessly and without risks and damages examine the child in its development. Possible malformations can already laid the table and perhaps be treated in the womb. Three ultrasound appointments are prescribed legally and are entered in the mother passport. At striking results perhaps further ultrasound scans are set.

The first screening should take place between the 9th and 12th pregnancy weeks. The doctor calculates the age and the birth appointment of the child from the height of the fetus, the so-called crown-rump length. FS means fetus sac. Its diameter is determined. It also is found out, whether the fetus has settled in the womb or whether it is an extrauterine pregnancy. The so-called dorsonuchale edema also is of interest. So a water accumulation which is visible in the ultrasonogram as a nape fold is described in the nape. It can be a reference to a genetic illness.

The physician recognizes at the second screening in the 19-22nd pregnancy week now whether the internal organs are laid out correctly and whether the embryo develops well. The seat of the placenta is noted down.

The head is measured exactly. The abbreviations mean the following:
  • BPD = Biparientale head diameter = Diameter of the head of temple to temple,
  • FOD = Frontooccipitale head diameter = Diameter of the head of the forehead to the back of the head,
  • KU = Head circumference. The trunk is examined. The contractions of the technical terms mean taking second place:
    • ATD = transverse diameter abdominally = transverse diameter of left to the right abdomen side,
    • APD = anterior posterior diameter = Diameter of the abdomen from the navel up to the spinal column,
    • AU =abdomen circumference = Abdomen circumference.
The extremities (member measures) are finally still measured. Fl femur length means. This is the length of the femur. Hl is called humerus length and indicates the length of the upper arm bone.

The third screening takes place in the time period between the 29th and 32nd pregnancy weeks. The growth of the child is checked and the function of its internal organs checks. The quantity of the fetus water is determined.

    Cardiotocographyc results
Cardiotocographyc results (CTG) are the notes of the heart sounds of the child and the maternal labors during the late pregnancy and the birth. The heart sound labor author records these results. The midwife or the attending doctor sees from this whether the child is well. This apparatus is principally important at the supervision of the birth. Premature labors can be recognized at the check-ups
