The classification of amino acids
The amino acids are divided up into four groups:
- Neutral amino acids: Alanine, glycine, leucine, isoleucine, valine
- Basic amino acids: lysin, arginine
- Acid amino acids: Asparagine, aspartic acid, glutamine, glutamic acid
- Functional amino acids: Cysteine, histidine, methionine, phenylalanine, proline, serine, threonine, tyrosine, tryptophan
Of altogether 20 happening amino acids 8 are essential, i.e. they can't be built up by the body but must be taken by nutrition. The essential amino acids are leucine, isoleucine, lysin, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine
