Symptothermal method or mucus temperature method

The symptothermal method combines two methods of the natural family planning: the mucus and the basal body temperature charting. With the morning body temperature measurement and the mucus examination the fertile ones can be determined days on which no-one or only protected sexual intercourse may take place. To increase the safety, these two methods are completed by buttons of the os uteri. During the cycle woman can develop her fertile time also from the changes of the os uteri. After the menstruation the os uteri is as a rule firmer and rises deeply into the sheath, on the barren days it is closed. It gets softer and softer up to the ovulation and the opening at the os uteri gets bigger and bigger. It can be recognized also more heavily.

The Pearl index of the symptothermal method is between 1 and 3.

Application

The minimum body temperature, mucus consistence values and the changes at the os uteri are held tight in a graph. These values must then be evaluated. On the fertile days the pair must do without the sexual intercourse or go back to other, as a rule mechanical prophylaxis methods.

This composite method presupposes the readiness to get to know the body of its own. This composite method is very work-intensively, it required very much discipline and consequence. The method must be learned and several cycles practiced for a long time before. Different courses will learn, however, offered to this.

Advantages

This method doesn't load the body. Woman can get to know her body by the method better.

Disadvantages

The symptothermal method presupposes a regular and balanced rhythm of life. Different factors like diseases, feeling fluctuations, stress, too few sleep, greater alcohol consumption, journeys or shift-work can influence the reliability of this method negatively.

For young girls and for women with an irregular cycle this method isn't suitable.

The symptothermal method doesn't offer protection against sexually transmissible diseases.
