Blood tests

What are blood tests?

One understands a method by it at which a small quantity of blood taken (approx. 2-50 ml) venously or arterially with different laboratory medical methods on its contents substances and integral parts are examined.

The possible applications of a blood test are variously and always are refined further. It is therefore possible to carry out many examinations with one single blood test.

What is the blood test used for?
The blood contains white blood bodies (Leukocyten). These play an important role in the immune system of the body. The typical color of the blood comes from the red blood bodies (erythrocytes) which are round and flat. You contain the Hämoglobin (red hemoglobin), it is the essential task to transport the oxygen from the lungs into the whole body. A thorough examination of the blood picture is a combination from the following examinations:

White blood corpuscles:
The complete number of white blood bodies is determined and the ratio of the different types of white blood corpuscles to each other defines (differential blood picture). A fall in the number of white blood bodies can U. are.

having been caused by an autoimmune suffering. One understands illnesses by it at which the immune system attacks the endogenous cells. Causes can be however also certain virus infections or medicine. An acute increase in the number of white blood bodies can U. are.

being caused by infections with bacteria or an operation. If the ratio of the white blood corpuscle types to each other changes, then it can be a virus infection, an allergy, worm illness, leukemia or some other cancer ways. By control of the white blood bodies one also can pursue the development of an illness and coordinate the treatment to the effect.

Red blood corpuscles:
Hemoglobin (the red hemoglobin) is in the red blood bodies and transports oxygen essentially. Two central measuring of the red blood corpuscles is the Hämatokritwert (ratio of integral, -celled parts to the complete blood in per cent) and the absolute quantity of the Hämoglobins in the blood. A little Hämatokrit value happens at almost all types of blood defect before and after heavy bleedings. A high Hämatokrit value has e.g. liquid defect. At blood defect (anaemia) the Hämoglobinkonzentration is cut-rate. The number of red blood corpuscles depends, however, on the way of the blood defect.

Blood end stroke:
At this examination one looks at the blood cells under a microscope. A drop of blood is painted on the object glass and with certain substances angefärbt. The object glass is then put under the microscope. The forms, coloring and sizes of the cells, are examined. Through this different virale or blood illnesses, like Pfeiffer's glandular fever, Leukämien, can become iron deficiency etc. diagnostiziet. One also can examine this for parasites (sleeping sickness or malaria) by inking the blood end stroke.

Blood corpuscle reduction (BKS):
Blood is made by certain additions to ungerinnbar. The speed with which the blood corpuscles sink in a measuring tubule by reading the distance which they have covered after an hour is measured. A faster BKS has to be watched at inflammations, infections, rheumatic illnesses, cancer illnesses or heavy anemia e.g.. At liver diseases the blood corpuscle reduction slows down.

Serological examinations:
The endogenous defense forms antibodies against penetrating viruses and bacteria. Conclusions can be drawn on an infection from the way and quantity of these antibodies. For this the doctor examines the blood serum, a clear liquid which collects from the integral blood parts if the blood clots. There are different kinds of antibody: Immune globulins of the M and G class (IgM and IgG). The meaningfulness of this antibody proof method is, however, restrictedly, then in the blood can antibody of an infection being behind be. Sometimes the body needs days or weeks to form antibodies. Although one has an infection, no antibodies are provable.

Blood culture:
Different microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites are analyzed microbiologically with different tests to receive references to the way of the pathogene. Bacteria can be cultivated, inked and identified with a pigment on nursing media. Is then tested, which antibiotic against the pathogene is effective particularly, it at the growth impedes or kills. Viruses don't have to be increased on breeding grounds but only into cell cultures with different cell types of a human or animal origin. One frequently uses stimulated hen's eggs. Viruses cannot be diagnosed under a normal microscope, they only can be made visible under the electron microscope or by means of special color methods. The virus proof is therefore effortful and expensive. One therefore looks for antibodies, which formed the immune system against the virus has (p. serological examinations).

RAST-Test
It is most barely the rest test (radio Allergo-Sorbent test) one rest test in the laboratory. He is already as of the baby age possible and is aimed off, in an effortful Labortest antibody this oneIgE to prove class against body strange allergens. Examined one determined, allergens which is already in the suspicion to trigger an allergy. For this the blood is removed for the laboratory examinations in one single withdrawal, there is then the result after approx. 2 weeks. The higher the rest value, the stronger are the sensitization.

The test is painful by the sharp pain at the blood withdrawal a little, sometimes shows wrongly positive results at low rest values, has, however, the advantage that the rest unlike other tests also at acute infections or taking of medicine can be run through. There it, however, see is expensive and effortful and one relatively in addition waits for the result for a long time, it usually serves for the addition only in exceptions
